Israeli strikes kill child, two others in Gaza attacks
Israeli helicopter strikes on a tent and residential buildings in Gaza kill three, including a young girl, and wound seven. Casualties mount as war enters fifth month.
Israeli forces escalated their military operations across the Gaza Strip late Wednesday, killing at least three people, including a child, and wounding several others, according to local media reports. The attacks, which targeted a tent sheltering a displaced family in southern Gaza and a residential building in Gaza City, underscore the intensifying violence as the conflict enters its fifth month.
Helicopter strike on Khan Younis tent
In the west of Khan Younis, a city in southern Gaza, Israeli helicopters struck a tent belonging to the al-Balawi family. The attack killed three occupants, among them a young girl. The tent was sheltering civilians displaced by earlier fighting, reflecting the growing peril for families in makeshift accommodations. Witnesses reported that the strike occurred without warning, leaving the area in chaos as rescue workers rushed to recover bodies and treat the wounded.

Residential buildings hit in Gaza City
Separately, late Wednesday evening, Israeli forces targeted residential buildings in the al-Shati refugee camp, a densely populated area in Gaza City. The strikes wounded at least seven people, some critically. Local medical sources said that families were trapped under rubble as emergency teams struggled to reach them amid ongoing shelling. The camp, which has been repeatedly bombed since the war began, now houses thousands of homeless civilians.
Mounting toll since October
The latest deaths add to a staggering casualty count that has mounted since the conflict erupted in October 2023. According to Palestinian health authorities, more than 73,335 people have been killed and 174,052 wounded in Gaza over the past four months. The majority of the dead are women and children, and the actual numbers may be higher as bodies remain buried under debris.

Context of the ongoing conflict
The Israeli military says it is targeting Hamas militants and infrastructure, but the vast majority of casualties have been civilians, drawing international condemnation and accusations of a genocide by human rights groups and some governments. The United Nations has described the humanitarian situation in Gaza as catastrophic, with severe shortages of food, water, medicine, and shelter. Repeated calls for cease-fires have failed to halt the violence, and both sides remain entrenched.
As Israeli strikes continue to pound the enclave, the civilian population faces an increasingly desperate struggle for survival. The targeting of tents and residential buildings suggests a widening of the offensive, with no immediate end in sight. Humanitarian agencies warn that without a political resolution, the death toll will keep climbing, and the region risks further instability.
