Schoolboy stabbed with swords after gang let out 'war cry'
A 15-year-old boy is in surgery after being attacked by a group armed with knives and swords outside Alkira Secondary College in Melbourne's south-east. Police say the three offenders let out a 'war cry' before attacking.
A 15-year-old schoolboy is in hospital with serious injuries after being set upon by a group of three youths wielding knives and swords near Alkira Secondary College in Cranbourne North, Melbourne. The attack took place at about 3.20pm on Monday as the victim and two friends were walking home, when they noticed three hooded individuals, aged between 16 and 20, charging at them.
Attack described as 'war cry' assault
Detective Inspector Mark Patrick said the three offenders, who remain at large, let out a collective scream before launching the assault on Sabel Drive. He likened the sound to a battle cry, intended to draw the victims' attention and instil fear. The 15-year-old student, believed to have been specifically targeted, suffered multiple stab wounds to his back, arms and hands. He was rushed to an inner-city hospital where he is currently undergoing surgery.

Police hunt for offenders
Police are scouring the area for the attackers, who fled on foot and are not thought to be students of the school. No motive has been established, but investigators are probing possible links to known gangs. Inspector Patrick voiced frustration over the prevalence of knife violence, noting that such weapons are readily accessible. He appealed to the community to check CCTV footage and urged the suspects to surrender.
Community and school response
Alkira Secondary College has mobilised wellbeing support for those involved, while the Education Department confirmed the incident occurred off school grounds and after hours. Ambulance Victoria dispatched a Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance to treat the teenager for upper-body injuries before transporting him in a serious condition. The shopping strip in Cranbourne North, near the park where the attack occurred, has become a focal point for the investigation.

Looking ahead
As police continue their search for the three assailants, the incident has reignited concerns about youth knife crime in Melbourne's suburbs. Authorities are calling for anyone with information to come forward, while the community remains on edge. The victim's recovery and the pursuit of justice will be closely watched in the coming days.
