Citadel Securities Drops $400M into Crypto.com at $20B Valuation
Crypto.com lands $400M from Citadel Securities at $20B valuation to expand into blockchain securities and derivatives, bridging digital and traditional markets.
Crypto exchange Crypto.com has received a $400 million strategic investment from global market maker Citadel Securities, pushing the platform's valuation to $20 billion. The announcement, made Thursday, marks the first institutional funding round for the Singapore-based company, which operates a suite of digital asset products including trading, staking, and payments.
$400M Infusion and $20B Valuation
Citadel Securities, a major liquidity provider headquartered in Miami, Florida, made the investment as part of a strategic partnership. The deal values Crypto.com at $20 billion, reflecting the exchange's rapid growth and expanding footprint in the cryptocurrency space. The funds will be used to accelerate Crypto.com's expansion into new asset classes, including blockchain-based securities and derivatives, according to the company.

Bridging Traditional and Digital Finance
The cash injection is aimed at bridging the gap between digital asset markets and traditional financial systems. In a statement, Crypto.com CEO Kris Marszalek emphasized the staggering opportunity as crypto increasingly becomes the backbone of finance. "Having built the right regulatory and tech infrastructure over the last decade, Crypto.com is now perfectly positioned to capture this new wave of growth across all asset classes," Marszalek said.
Jim Esposito, President of Citadel Securities, echoed the sentiment, calling the convergence of traditional financial markets and digital asset infrastructure an exciting evolution with the potential to improve market efficiency. The investment underscores Citadel Securities' growing involvement in digital assets, following its role in launching EDX Markets in 2023 and a $200 million investment in crypto exchange Kraken last year.
Wall Street's Growing Crypto Interest
The deal arrives amid a broader push by traditional financial institutions into blockchain technology, despite a prolonged market downturn. In February, BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager, partnered with decentralized exchange Uniswap to bring one of its funds on-chain. Earlier in January, the New York Stock Exchange announced plans to build a platform for trading tokenized versions of US-listed equities and exchange-traded funds.
Most recently, the S&P 500 approved a new derivative contract on decentralized exchange Hyperliquid, allowing traders to gain leveraged exposure to the index. These moves signal a deepening integration between traditional finance and digital assets, a trend that Crypto.com aims to capitalize on.

Regulatory Steps and Future Outlook
EDX Markets, backed by Citadel Securities, applied for a national trust bank charter with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency this year, marking a step toward deeper ties with the US banking system. For Crypto.com, the investment from Citadel Securities provides not only capital but also validation from a top-tier traditional market maker. The funding will help the exchange build infrastructure to support a 24/7 financial ecosystem that spans both crypto and traditional assets.
Looking ahead, Crypto.com plans to leverage the investment to expand its product offerings and regulatory compliance, positioning itself as a bridge between the two worlds. As institutional interest in digital assets continues to grow, the exchange is well placed to capture a share of the evolving financial landscape.
